RODE have a reputation for making quality condenser microphones for recording studios and musical applications. A little while ago they turned their attention to the Video market and produced the truly superb VideoMic (RVM). This has been such a great success that they
ve now expanded the range and produced a true stereo microphone along the same lines. The build quality is excellent with an all metal case giving it a truly bomb-proof feel and again using a fully suspended design to keep camera noise to an absolute minimum. It utilises two capsules in an X/Y configuration to give true stereo recordings with good soundstage whilst still offering a high level of rear rejection and low noise. It
s powered by a standard 9V PP3 type battery. The Rode power LED is constantly illuminated green to let you know all is well and battery life is over 100 hours. There
s a switchable high pass filter to reduce unwanted low frequency rumble, and also a switch for 10db attenuation, useful for recording in high sound pressure level situations eg concerts, racetracks, train stations etc. It has a standard hot-shoe mount and the shock mount body is also threaded for mounting on a boom arm or tripod.
